The initiative was initiated with the aim of eradicating inequality in society and giving the same opportunity to all students to succeed. Officials have announced that the curricula for the VI, VII, and VIII grades have been updated and there is now a common syllabus for private and public schools.

The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has instructed the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) to print the Single National Curriculum (SNC) textbooks for classes up to Class 8 and ensure that the books will be on the market by April 1st, 2023.

According to the official, the institutions who wish to use books in addition to the curriculum standard must first obtain authorization through the PCTB.

They say that schools that deviate from the SNC could face severe sanctions that could include fines of up to Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 500 million for violating the rules and laws.

The SED is also planning to develop the SNC syllabus for classes 9, and 10 as per officials, who said textbooks will be published before April 2024.

After studying the final syllabus for secondary classes and the Center for Social Justice and the Working Group for Inclusive Education (WGIE) found that the revised curriculum didn’t include the majority of the proposed changes by the National Curriculum Council for English, Urdu, Geography, and the History.

According to WGIE The Punjab government is ignoring the education losses caused by the pandemic and other causes and is converting schools into seminaries thus limiting the amount of instruction available in mathematics, science, and social sciences.
